SPEECHCRAFT COURSE A HIT!Duncan CroftThe Christchurch office recently ran a successful Speechcraft course, with feedback from participants being overwhelmingly positive. The Speechcraft programme is facilitated by the internationally renowned Toastmasters organisation, and can be run in any office. Participants learn how to gain confidence in public speaking, develop their communication and language skills, how to think quickly and clearly, become an effective listener, and how to use body language and visual aids. Growth Solutions Consultant Aaron Cassidy says that he had considered doing the course in the past, but “it wasn’t until I was approached by a manager that described how relevant the course is to everyday life and to PAS, PCE2 that I will be sitting next year that I decided to enrol and never looked back.” Aaron says that the course was very beneficial. “Every night people on the course seemed to walk away from Speechcraft with a buzz, and the following couple of days round the office you would also hear the topical conversation about past weeks speeches.” “I also like the method of delivery of the course. At any time you never felt you were there alone. With the Toastmasters philosophy everyone is evaluated, commended and recommended new ideas for future speeches.” Growth Solutions Senior Analyst Sean Buttle also feels the Speechcraft course was a valuable experience which taught him a lot. “The Speechcraft course taught me how to utilise body language and visual aids to give an effective presentation.” “The impromptu speaking sessions encouraged me to think quickly and remain calm. Both of these skills will be very useful when faced with unexpected and challenging situations.” Both Aaron and Sean say that they would highly recommend the Speechcraft course to others. “Speechcraft is a fantastic course that people shouldn’t hesitate to dive in to” says Aaron. “It gave me the opportunity to step outside my comfort zone, within a group that you feel comfortable within.” “The Toastmasters provided valuable feedback at each session helping you to continually develop your public speaking skills” adds Sean. “It was also interesting hearing the variety of topics presented each week by all of the participants.” For further information about Speechcraft courses please contact us at information@herefordtoastmasters.org.nz. Testimonials from Hereford Street Toastmasters Club members
I look forward to the mid week boost of energy that is the result of attending Hereford Street Toastmasters. Everyone is positive, supportive and enthusiastic. The greatest pleasure comes from watching the development of member’s skills and confidence. Even after seven years I still enjoy the weekly meetings and feel mentally stimulated by the challenges that come your way. The Hereford Street Toastmasters meetings are really helping me improve my speaking skills, they’re fun and the members are great people. Even though I haven’t been with the Hereford Street Toastmasters Club for very long, I find all the people are very interesting and have helped me understand some of my strengths and weaknesses. I’ve just joined three weeks ago and have enjoyed everybody’s support in getting better at public speaking. It’s been a great help and I look forward to a lot more meetings. Hereford Street Toastmasters has given me the confidence to use my speaking skills and leadership to excel in my job. Hereford Street Toastmasters has inspired me to improve and create confidence with public speaking. Hereford Street Toastmasters is a positive environment in which to learn while having fun. I always leave the meeting feeling rejuvenated. I love this club. The members are very committed to supporting each other; great group! Hereford Street Toastmasters Club is very much a multi-cultural club. I have been a member since June last year. Since then I have learned to be more confident in front of people. I also enjoy the contact each week with the different members. Toastmasters is an excellent way of improving confidence and improving the potential of your life. Hereford Street Toastmasters is the friendliest and supportive club to help with that. I am not a member (yet) but have come to Toastmasters to become a good speaker. I am impressed with what I have been hearing and hope to be as confident as the speakers I have listened to tonight. A warm welcome from the members on the first day made me feel at home. Hereford Street Toastmasters Club is a brilliant place to learn the basics of public speaking and then to hone the skills learned. It gives members the confidence needed to feel comfortable in front of an audience. |
